Swindon Town

“Attack, Attack, Attack” was the message from Paul Sturrock today in our interview.

The Town boss said he was delighted to get back to winning ways against Wycombe, and progress into the next round of the F.A. Cup.

With arguably the biggest game of the season on Saturday when the team travel to Leeds, Sturrock confessed that due to a number of key injuries the team will adopt a more attacking approach to the game than he would have like.

“I don’t think we are capable of going there and defending for 90 minutes.”

But with a number of options going forward, Sturrock feels that attack is the best form of defence.

One of those options is Town’s Welsh wizard Christian Roberts who spoke to us today (see video interview above).

The winger has been left frustrated over the last couple of weeks not to be in the starting eleven, “It’s been disappointed not to be playing, but football is a squad game nowadays.”

However, he is eager to play his part against Leeds, “A game in front of a packed house at Elland Road would be perfect.”

And any reconciliation with former boss Dennis Wise will have to wait until the final whistle.

“Me and Dennis and good friends but we won’t be speaking until after the game.”

Swindon Supermarine Supermarine moved away from the base of the table with a well fought 1-0 win against fellow strugglers Tiverton Town. A game that manager Mark Collier described as “like a war zone”. However his troops managed to withstand the pressure and ground out the victory when Nathan Lightbody fired the ball home just before the hour mark. Up next for Marine is a tough local derby against high flying Chppenham Town at Harden Huish Park.

Golf  Disappointment best describes both David Howell’s and Martin Sell’s golf in the last few weeks. Howell has got of to a poor start at the USB Hong Kong Open with an opening round of 72 (+2) leaving him 10 shots adrift of the leader, and in danger of missing another half-way cut. Sell returned from Spain at the weekend following his unsuccessful attempt at the second stage of European Tour School. The Jamega Tour winner couldn’t reproduce the form he showed at stage one and will have to wait another year to realise his dream of playing top-flight tournament golf.

Ice Hockey

The Swindon npower Wildcats completed a comprehensive double over Wightlink in the Cup last weekend.

The Cats destroyed the visitors 9-1 at the Link Centre on the Saturday and followed that up with an 8-3 away triumph on the Sunday.

The victories should hopefully instil some confidence into the squad for this coming weekend when they host bottom of the table Romford.

This game is quickly followed by a trip to Essex to face the Chelmsford Chieftains, two games that could see the team move away from the wrong end of the table.
